FLYING H GENETICS MISSOURI HERD BULL SALE
MARCH 15, 2008  1:00 p.m.

Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, MO

Cattlemen and Cattlewomen, Hello from all of us at Flying H Genetics! It is our pleasure to welcome you to our first Missouri production sale. With over 60 years of experience in seedstock production and improvement, it is our goal to offer expanded options to the beef producers within our regions by providing them with a quality guaranteed product, valuable services and standing behind them 100%. As you read through this catalog, you will notice we don’t use the “Smoke & Mirrors” concept of advertising. We won’t brag about enormous weights, use terms like “scale busters” or try to cover up genetic deficiency with layers of fat. If you want to buy fat, go to a butcher shop; not a bull sale! Our “Grown On Grass” program is designed to build athletes. It requires our bulls to be developed in fescue paddocks with a feed supplement that is specifically designed for a growing bull. They will appear hard, are not fat, can survive our tough summers, will live longer, and work harder. For these reasons, we will not be publishing weights or misleading data in our catalog. Instead, we will include only EPDs & DNA, the real genetic predictors! It is easy to impress folks with massive weights from fat to make cattle appear better than they really are. BEEF magazine published an article by a leading columnist last month that reiterated the fact that EPDs are still the single most accurate predictor of genetic value we have. Weights and ratios collected by breeders help mold the EPDs into a more accurate predictor and therefore are valuable pieces of the genetic puzzle. By eliminating the less valuable data from our catalog and adding DNA results, your selection process will be more accurate, unbiased and based on the “real” genetic value of the animal. We are aware of the skepticism of EPDs brought on by the manipulation of data by some producers, whose genetics over promise and often under deliver. To protect our customers, FHG bulls are required to pass all of our 17 Quality Standards. These standards guarantee our genetics, live up to their EPDs, and more. On page four, we have provided you with the average EPDs of the FHG bulls in this catalog and the spring 2008 breed average EPDs of bulls for sale this spring across the U.S.A. As you can see, instead of devoting extra funds to fat, we’ve spent it on actual genetic improvements through artificial insemination and embryo transfer programs. (98% of the bulls in this catalog were produced through A.I. or E.T.). We know the “REAL VALUE” of our genetics, so we don’t need to make them fat with amazing weights and 1400+ lb. butterballs. Ask yourself this: do I want to infuse growth, muscle, fertility, longevity, and carcass value into my cowherd with fed on fat or bred in genetic value?
